Microsoft Edge Workspace
Designing chat and collaboration tools for Microsoft Edge Browser
Microsoft Edge Workspace allows you to browse and work with others in real time
That means you can share a set of browser tabs, so that you and your team can view the same website and latest working files simultaneously. Our researcher had uncover challenges with the existing feature that users are disoriented when collaborating in a collaborative browser and found it difficult to add context why certain tabs are being added into a Edge Workspace.

As a Product Designer for the Edge Enterprise team, I had the opportunity to work on envisioning the future of browsing by building chat and collaboration tools.

01 Challenge
Help people learn how to use and communicate for enterprise and consumer
In a shared Edge Workspace, you currently need a separate communication software (Teams) for team collaboration. This can cause disorientation and interruption as you switch between the browser and software used for communication. I worked to tackle these challenges below:
01
Shared Workspaces equates to tab overload.
When working in a shared workspace, it's easy to open multiple tabs and navigate through them. However, this often leads to a cluttered and disorganized tab bar, making it difficult for people to find the specific links they need.
02
Disorientation returning to Edge Workspace
In a shared workspace, people can navigate away from tabs, delete, or add new tabs. When you return to a Edge Workspace, it can be disorienting returning if there are a lot of changes.
03
Asynch and synch have different needs
For real-time collaboration, calling or video calling would be the best option for synchronous collaboration. On the other hand, if you are working with someone asynchronously, it's about annotating for them to review on their own time.
04
Share needs improvement
Sharing has different meaning associated with the browser. There are lots of feature for sharing individual links and we found that majority of our Edge Workspaces are not shared.

Some shipped work ↓

Consumer Preview
I worked on the consumer preview launch where we created different toast and error states when inviting new people to their first Edge Workspace.
Email design
I created several versions of an email template for Edge Workspace to be sent when a user is invited via email. The goal of this design was to highlight how to use Edge Workspace and communicate to the user they are joining a shared experience.
Shared History
I worked on figuring out what happens to history in a shared Workspaces when other people are collaborating. This is unique as there is no other platforms similar to Edge workspaces.
